Electric cars are being talked about quite a lot in the media these days. There is a great buzz in the car industry as many believe that the electric car could be the best alternative to diesel and petrol powered cars. We are probably all tired of hearing about the disadvantages of being so over dependent on oil based fuel, but up until now there doesn’t seem to be too many alternatives. Even though we have heard talk of electric cars for years now, before they just seemed like the stuff of fantasy or science fiction. But the changes to technology have meant that these cars have become a reality now and there are more of them being made all the time. It seems that the day of the electric car might really have come.
How Does The Electric Car Operate?
As the name would suggest, the electric car runs on an electric motor and therefore does not need to use petrol. These cars use rechargeable batteries to power the electric motor. The exterior of an electric car does not look any different from any other type of car but under the bonnet things look slightly different. You have to charge an electric car. This is done using a charger that has been specially built so as to not damage the car’s electric cells. It normally takes a few hours to charge your vehicle. And as advancements are made it is taking less time to charge the car’s battery and the length of time that the car can run on a battery is increasing. The majority of electric cars recharge at about twenty percent every hour so it normally takes around five hours before a car is fully recharged.
It is expected that the popularity of electric cars will rise over the coming years. Hopefully as this happens it will lead to them becoming cheaper as well. Having the ability to fill up your car without having to head to the nearest service station is one of the most appealing aspects of an electric car.
Advances in technology nowadays continue to astound. And the car industry is testament to that. Take all things to do with the electric cars. With far reaching advances in electric vehiclessuch as compact crossover to name only a very small number.
